About SBMC

The South Burnaby Metro Club (SBMC) is a non-profit organization run by volunteers. The club consists of a parent club and four separate sports clubs that report to the parent club. The parent club is the South Burnaby Metro Club and the four sports clubs are SBMC-Soccer, SBMC-Baseball, SBMC-Volleyball and SBMC-Basketball Program. Each club has an elected chair and an elected board of directors to oversee their own sports program. SBMC soccer offers programs catering to ages 3 to 17 years of age in a safe, organized and fun environment.

Our History

Since 1952, the South Burnaby Metro Club (formerly known as the South Burnaby Men’s Club) has been working to help the children of the community by providing organized youth sports activities in baseball, basketball and soccer. Guided by the motto: “Dedicated to Youth”, the soccer program has sponsored numerous youth sporting events and has played a key role in the development of many Burnaby’s youth programs and facilities, including Bonsor Recreation Centre and Ron McLean Park. Along the way, its members have made lifelong friends in the fellowship that comes with this kind of community service.

Who We Are

SBMC relies on volunteer parents to operate and maintain the various sports programs. Without parent involvement, there would be no SBMC. The club relies on parents to volunteer to run our sports and community programs; to be the team managers and coaches for our numerous sports teams; to fill club executive positions; to be involved and to participate in the decision-making process of the executive committees; and to do the 1001 jobs that make the Club operate as well as it does.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to positively impact the development of youth in our community by providing soccer and life-enriching opportunities to young players of all ages and playing abilities, to create a lifelong passion for the sport of soccer, and to help raise the level of soccer in south Burnaby. We strive to play an active role in the leadership, development and personal growth of our players and staff by being an active member of our community through service, partnership, and programs.

Our ultimate goal as a club is to encourage, inspire and empower each player and coach to be able to reach the highest level possible within the game and in life while helping create leaders and individuals that will inspire others to do the same.
